My boyfriend and me had thought about this, but all we could come up with was either too complicated or too close to the actual game, rendering it an useless idea. But knowing us, we will surely work on this in the future. Sometime.

I actually did a board game version once as a school project.
It only had a small amount of units, one map, and it was predeployed. It's more of a hassle than it's worth to try to copy AW into some sort of board game.

Fuck yes. It takes hours to even finish one game of it, it sucks all my nerves and attention span dry, but boy do I love it.

I'd be interested in seeing how you did it. I've had some success making board games myself, so maybe I could help you streamline it a bit.

I just took a big sheet of paper, drew a grid with different spaces, and there's different little pieces for units. Each has movement count displayed on it, along with how effective they are against others (got around to only four units: Artillery, Light Tank, Standard Infantry, Battle Copter). Terrain cost is essentially the same (displayed on the border of the little book the maps were in), and you simply subtract the terrain cost from the movement for each square taken. There's sheets where you record each unit's health as it goes down from ten. A roll of the dice determines how luck would work.
I don't remember anything else I did with it. It was a while ago. I at least kept the bright and colorful graphics, though.
