Hello

Postby Havetts » July 29th, 2010, 4:54 pm

Hey, Im Havetts. I've been playing advance wars since the first one, mostly in vacations and in holidays, seeing I usually get my gameboy out when Im in the car and then my addiction hits again ^^. I've played every game in the series, liked Black Hole Rising and the first hte most, eventhough I never managed to finish hard campaign on the first, DoR the least.

I never really played alot vs other players, seeing with the first two you had to link and none of my friends bothered to play again after I beat them ;). Disliked Dual Strike due to the sheer overpoweredness of some tagbreaks and never played that online, and DoR because the game has become way easier and totally went to another storyline which I really disliked and some new units (cough antitank) that were added and some that were removed sucked.

Anyways, huge first post. So fire your light machine guns I guess Oo.

Hi there. Sounds like you've got quite the background with Advance Wars. Although I must disagree with one thing you said. AWDoR is by far the best one as far as gameplay goes, with AWDS being a close second.

A word of advice: since you don't have much metagame experience, don't expect to be taken too seriously if you start throwing out ideas about balance that are contrary to the mainstream opinion. It's nothing personal. It's just that multiplayer at high level play is a whole different game from fighting in the War Room against the AI.

Yea I suppose, dunno I never really enjoyed DoR - none of the CO's really appealed to me. Might have to replay the thing again, never played really alot against other players yea, so that might hopefully change :). Though - at the place I am now I only do have the ROM (R4 yea I know bad ;p) I guess it isnt possible to play online with it?:).

After reading some of the things like meatwalls and join strats @ DoR make me wonder if its that much fun or just rather frustrating ^^.

Though, I one of the downsides of BHR is that you can't add things like Factories or Black Cannons in your own maps, would be fun to make your own 'campaign mission'. Though hard campaign on BHR isn't really hard :(.

I dont really like the changes they did to DS first and DoR second, basically moving away from the original units etc. But I guess that isnt that bad at all if you look at it another way. :P

It's not frustrating. It just takes some getting used to. Meatwalls actually aren't as good against the top COs as they were in previous games, as I recently found out. Apparently one of the 3 top COs in that game relies on uber tanks, and the other two rely on Mech Rushes, and out of those two the one at the very top (Isabella) also has Indirects as a viable option.

There's no less strategy involved than there is in the War Room. It's just a different kind of strategy.
